“Deal puts ads in video uploads”

November 25th, 2008

Last week in the LA Times business section there was a great article about the big media outlets’ various strategies to monetize online video content.

“For several years, television networks and movie studios dispatched legions of lawyers and sophisticated technology to stamp out piracy while showcasing their content on their own websites. Viacom Inc., owner of Paramount Pictures and MTV Networks, filed a $1-billion copyright infringement lawsuit against Google Inc.’s YouTube, the Web’s most popular video-sharing service.

But MTV Networks and other media giants have started to embrace the consumer-led digital revolution. The Viacom unit plans to pair advertising with clips from “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” “Punk’d” and other shows that MySpace users upload to the social network site, whether they have permission or not…”

New Financial Institutions

November 25th, 2008

In today’s Wall Street Journal Dennis Berman wrote: “The financial system is in tatters. It is time to build from scratch.

One provocative, and perhaps inevitable, path is for the government to directly fund the formation of new banks. It could give incentives to private investors to form banks free from the taint of the old economic order.”

The Groop has seen this trend of new economic opportunities and is working to empower people toward financial success. Recently we have been working on several financial products that make it easy for novice investors to succeed. Fund.com is an example where we created a fun and remarkably easy platform for users to set financial goals and get on the right track toward achieving them. We are currently working on a whole slew of financial projects so check back soon.

“Who Will Be the Godfather of Web Video?”

The Groop Creates a MySpace App

November 25th, 2008

The Groop recently collaborated with ThisNext and MySpace to design and build a holiday wish-list application. The wish list app serves up great suggestions from ThisNext and sponsors, and also allows users to add products from anywhere on the web via an easy-to-use bookmarklet. Wishlists are displayed on user’s MySpace profiles, making it easy for friends and family to buy just the right thing this holiday season.

Our design makes it fun and engaging for users to browse and add products by utilizing drag and drop technology. They can also customize the look and feel of the application by adding stickers and skins to change the appearance in an intuitive and easy way. To make sure MySpace users understand exactly how to get the best experience, we created an instructional video outlining how to use the application. The app is currently featured on the MySpace home page, and we’re expecting huge holiday participation!
