Responses To Republican Party Redesign in Newsweek

January 27th, 2009

Thanks to the folks at graphpaper.com for the analysis and nice shout-out to The Groop.

“Our next redesign comes from The Groop, the only boutique firm in this mix. I didn’t know much about them before, but their portfolio and clients are really impressive.

Newsweek describes The Groop’s design approach as “Out: ‘old money,’ ‘faith-based.’ In: ‘new wealth,’ ’spirituality-based.’”. And I think right there is the problem…

The Groop ReBrands the Republican Party for Newsweek

December 23rd, 2008

newsweek magazine spread

The Groop was asked by Newsweek magazine to provide ideas for ways to reposition and resurrect the Republican brand.
Alongside three other top design and digital agencies (including Pentagram, Frog Design and Razorfish), The Groop proposed a rebranding strategy for the Republican Party to update its lexicon.

Groop CEO Jose Caballer commented, “First of all, we are honored to have been asked by Newsweek to help on the assignment, second it is great to see The Groop’s expertise be recognized along side such respected firms like Pentagram, Frog and Razorfish. More importantly this was a lot of fun. We really worked to redefine the lexicon of the Republican Party and to reposition it by not only rethinking what the party says but how they say it.”

“It’s exciting to see all of the top design firm’s creative approaches to address the issue. Our multi-disciplined team had a lot of fun immersing ourselves and brainstorming ways we could help the Republican party with fresh ideas and new thinking” commented Henry Min, Executive Creative Director at The Groop.

The Groop’s approach appears in the Politics section of this week’s Newsweek issue on page 13.

Bank Reopens with “Osman Kahn: Unviewed”

July 11th, 2006

After a few delays Bank reopened last week. If you missed the opening, (and the private party after) well you missed out. At least come check out Osman Khan’s piece. Bring your mobile phones along for the full effect.

"Osman Khan’s work centers around the use of technology to construct interactive installations and site-specific interventions for social criticism and aesthetic expression. His work explores certain themes to see how technology fabricates as well as subverts our understanding of identity, communication, and public space. For his first solo show at Bank, Khan creates an interactive text based piece that exposes how our newly adopted dependencies on digital devices have transformed notions of communication, privilege and mediation."
